I tried to verify that on her account, but no joy. But, to quote Dan Rather, "Fake, but accurate."

@George-K said in A justified shooting: What's the story on those sights? Also, did you notice how shaky his grip was? Looks like a Trijicon reflex or red dot sight. https://www.trijicon.com/products/subcategory/trijicon-rmr That's around a $500 sight. Everybody shakes if not braced, some a lot more than others. The trick is knowing when to pull the trigger.

@jon-nyc said in SCOTUS approves CFPB funding: This one went 7-2. Clarence Thomas writing the majority opinion. Which The Hill chose not to mention until the 6th paragraph, Gorsuch, Alito break from conservatives Two of the Supreme Court’s most conservative justices broke away from other right-leaning members of the nation’s high court in a decision to preserve the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) — but a third led the majority opinion that sided with the Biden administration. Justices Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch dissented from the Supreme Court’s 7-2 vote upholding the agency’s funding mechanism as constitutional, suggesting that the decision undercuts the most “complete and effectual weapon” at Congress’s disposal: its power of the purse. “Unfortunately, today’s decision turns the Appropriations Clause into a minor vestige,” Alito wrote. “The Court upholds a novel statutory scheme under which the powerful Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) may bankroll its own agenda without any congressional control or oversight.” Unlike most other federal agencies, which receive funding through annual appropriations, Congress gave the CFPB the power to draw funds from the Federal Reserve System that its director has deemed “reasonably necessary to carry out.” That funding mechanism has long made the CFPB a target of Republican attacks purporting lawmakers have too little control over the agency. “The Framers would be shocked, even horrified, by this scheme,” Alito wrote. A separate and also notable break among the justices is that the majority opinion, which sided with the Biden administration, was written by Justice Clarence Thomas, known as one of the Supreme Court’s most conservative justices. He was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts, conservative Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett and the high court’s three liberals.

@George-K said in Pain perception and race: Because he’s a racist? There's a certain amount of irony associated with the whole study. He's getting funded to torture white women and boast about it afterwards. Also, I thought the phrase 'Confederate Shock' was quite funny under the circumstances.

Makes sense. Strange world where your gummies are legal in Massachusetts and California but if you put them in your suitcase on a Boston to SFO flight you're breaking the law.

@George-K you might want to change the thread title. SCOTUS decided that CFPB's funding is constitutional after all. Voted 7-2, with Clarence Thomas writing the majority opinion: https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/23pdf/22-448_o7jp.pdf

@Doctor-Phibes said in Car Seats as Contraception: Not just the parents. When my son was about 2 and my daughter was a baby, he turned to us and said very politely and solemnly, 'I think we should take her back to the hospital now'. A friend once told me that the # of kids parents believe would make life easy is N - 1, where N is the actual number of kids you currently have. LOL When we told our 3 daughters that we were expecting a fourth, D1 (she was 4 at the time, iirc) said, "NO! Three is enough."

@Jolly said in Steel Tarriff: Personally, I look at steel, pharmaceuticals, energy and computers as strategic resources to be protected if necessary. So, you must be quite happy with President Bidens strategies in these areas: Steel - increased tariffs Energy - highest oil production ever, net exporter of oil, increasing solar and wind (which reduces dependency on other (foreign) sources) Computers - CHIP act, etc.

In all, 47 migrants have been arrested since October in the village of Oak Brook, about 20 miles west of the Second City, Chief of Police Brian Strockis told Fox News, adding many of the incidents have targeted a Macy’s in the local mall. https://x.com/ChiefWeitzel/status/1791062545287065922
